The census took a lot of time, effort and planning. Joseph and Mary (and Jesus) were of the lineage of King David. King David’s ancestral homeland was Bethlehem.Jesus was born in Bethlehem in JudeaWhen the census was underway, during the time of King Herod, Mary and Joseph traveled nearly 90 miles from their home in Nazareth in the North down to Bethlehem (about 6 miles from Jerusalem). According to Scriptures, directly after the Presentation, when Jesus Mary and Joseph fulfill all the Law required, they return to Galilee and their own home town of Nazareth.
